GothCon Auction XLVII

The traditional GothCon auction will of course return at GothCon XLVII!
It's time again for all of us to both expand and clear out our game collections while raising money for the Children's Cancer Foundation!

How does it happen then?
Just like in previous years, we will have two submission sessions, one on Friday and one on Saturday, where visitors to the convention can drop by and hand in things they want to sell at the auction. Either you can choose to sell things at the auction and get money afterwards or you can choose to donate the entire amount to charity. This year we will also have a donation table next to the submissions, where you can easily leave things you want to donate to charity. Then we take care of the entire administration, sell the gadget in question and make sure that the money goes to charity.

Display of everything to be sold during the auction takes place Saturday 12:00 - 13:00.
The auction itself will start on Saturday at 15:00 and, as in previous years, will be run in two halves, one for each bidding group, with a shorter break of about 10-15 minutes in between.

Please note that the number of entries submitted this year is limited to 16 per person, as we want as many people as possible to have the chance to submit things. Take extra thought into what you hand in and how you package it. Feel free to bundle books and games together, something that can also make them easier to sell. We will put removable sticky notes on all announcements, so fragile games, books and magazines may then need to be wrapped in completely transparent plastic or put in plastic bags. Remember that you should be able to easily see what is being sold, so avoid taped-up cardboard boxes, black garbage bags and overly creative wrapping.
There will be some access to string and tape at the time of submission, but please prepare beforehand and it will go faster.

Please note that this is an auction for board games, figure games, card games and role-playing games, as well as items related to the hobby. We reserve the right not to accept calls that do not fit this theme. If we receive too many calls for a product, we may decline to accept any more of it. Email us if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns about this or the auction in general!

The fee for submitting a call is SEK 10/call and it is charged regardless of whether the item is sold or not. The auction fee goes directly to charitable purposes. At the auction, the minimum asking price is SEK 20, and the minimum bid increase is an even SEK 10.
In order to submit calls and participate in the auction, you must have paid admission to the convention.
It is possible to set a minimum reservation price. However, avoid setting high reserve prices, as this can cause calls to not sell. We prefer not to set a reserve price at all and reserve the right to refuse submission if we believe a reserve price is unreasonable.

Payment
Like last year, we primarily take payment via Swish during the auction. It is possible to pay in cash provided you have even money as we do not have an actual exchange office. Please choose Swish as much as possible.

Payment for sold calls
Payments to sellers after the auction will be made to the bank account. This requires that you, as a seller, provide information with bank account + clearing number to us during the submission. For donated items where the entire amount is donated to charity, no bank details are needed. Payments will not take place on site but will be made by the association's treasurer within 2-3 weeks after the end of the convention.

Submission:
Friday 20:00 - 21:30 or until we have received approx. 200 calls.
Saturday 09:00 - 10:30 or until we have received approx. 200 calls.
Viewing: Saturday 12:00 - 13:00
Auction: Saturday 15:00 - about 19-ish (until we are done)
Delivery of unsold items: Saturday 22:00 - 23:00 & Sunday 9:30 - 10:30
Location: The auction is held as usual in Norra Aulan. This applies to submission, viewing and the auction itself. Delivery of unsold objects takes place by the GC auction group in connection with the Organizer's reception.

"Hidden" Narrative Miniature Game

Plum Island off Massachusetts is a very inconspicuous island. It has been inhabited for as long as people can remember, but rarely does anything happen here. They fish for cod in the Atlantic when the weather permits, and drink their beer at the pub in Fort Philips.
In 1924, however, the Navy decided to set up a seaplane base on the island. You can read that in old issues of the Arkham Advertiser.
More than a hundred men were to serve, and the fishermen in the village were worried about the fishing industry. The editorial in the paper recalled the publicized submarine attack on Orleans in the last year of the war, and wholeheartedly endorsed the protection now afforded to the people of Massachusetts after the thoughtless closing of the airship base at Chatham two years before.
A funny guy wrote in a post that the island's alleged nickname, "the last survivor island", came from the time of the witch trials and wondered what the navy boys thought when they heard it.
Another person demanded that the bishop of Massachusetts do something about it. However, it was unclear what he thought the church should do and what the problem actually was.

Smaller events, hardly worth mentioning, are to be found in small notices that year. The "Holy Church of Salvation and Trinity" foundation, based in Boston and Salem, had acquired land on Plum Island. They now advertised for young evangelists who want to mission in the area and revive the small community of Fort Philip with salvation.
The salary was promised to be more than one could reasonably wish for.

In the fishing village, the ethnologist James Bollingworth had organized a small exhibition of his work on the Wampanoag Indians.
A lecture at the pub "The gilded cod" would take place next Friday at 5 o'clock. Entry was 10p and children got in free.

That's all that can be found about Plum Island in the newspaper's archives from that time, and since. The island has been forgotten, although weather-beaten fishermen still land their catches in coastal ports. You can talk to them if you want; they are friendly but show a sense of humor some would find unpleasant, and they do it in the real old New England dialect.

    RopeLIVE

RopeLIVE (also known as RPG Live) has introduced the Finnish audience to a concept of interactive and participatory TTRPG streams.

Established in autumn 2021, Yle (Finnish Public Service) has broadcast six live broadcasts of between four and five hours of newly created game concepts where celebrities have gathered around a table together with the audience to embark on adventures in alien worlds. Everything from fantasy to haunted houses and the dark side of the moon to fantastic worlds in other galaxies.

The concept is created and arranged by a small group of enthusiastic players with decades of experience in various role-playing games and are active in the Finnish role-playing hobby.

With RopeLIVE, the audience has a big role in the outcome of the game. The chat space provides not only the ability to influence the game and give orders to the characters, but also a friendly and enthusiastic community space to share thoughts and experience the adventure on a whole new level.

RopeLIVE has become a very popular gaming concept in Finland, uniting thousands of players and tens of thousands of unique viewers. And now Sweden gets the chance. In 2024, the concept is planned to be expanded to Sweden in collaboration with SVT, and the next game is planned to be released simultaneously in Sweden and Finland.

Come and listen to the creators of RopeLIVE. Hear what the concept is about, how the Swedish version will work and why we need YOU to help us make the next game better than ever!

    Assassin

Assassin's Creed is a game that runs continuously throughout almost all of GothCon.

The game involves participants assassinating each other with a knife (banana), poisoning each other's food or drink (salt) or challenging each other at Russian roulette (D6). Players will be tagged with an armband.

Points are awarded for each kill and the participants who live 21:00 on Saturday get extra points. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins regardless of whether he is alive or not.

You can participate even if you are not at the convention the whole time and there will be at least two chances to revive/jump into the game after it starts.

Game rooms, dormitories and the cafeteria will be safe from knife murder.

To be involved from the beginning, you must participate in a start-up meeting (Max 15 min) Friday at 09:00, but you will be able to jump into the game at 12:00 and at midnight by coming to the event room.

Pre-registration is possible but not necessary, you can show up to the start-up meeting without pre-registration or jump in at given times.
If fewer than 10 people show up for the start-up meeting, the event is cancelled.

In case of questions or a need for a ruling, the organizers can be contacted via a Facebook group to which everyone participating in the game is invited.

In the event room, materials and rules (and often organizers) will be available throughout the game.
