Föreläsning med Ron Edwards

Rollspelsveteranen Ron Edwards kommer hålla i två föreläsningar om rollspelshistoria och berättande. The fantasy in our role-playing This activity examines a lost period of role-playing history: about ten fantasy games published during the 1970s which were not Dungeons & Dragons. They present deep, wide, diverse concepts and designs, whose details would be considered new and innovative when encountered today. Separate groups will play short situations focusing on specific rules use for different titles, including but not limited to High Fantasy, DragonQuest, Bushido, Ysgarth, early RuneQuest, Adventures in Fantasy, early Tunnels & Trolls, Mage, What Price Glory?, Melanda, early Empire of the Petal Throne, The Arduin Grimoire, and The Fantasy Trip. The final section addresses role-playing settings which have persisted in publication or were imposed as standard, and how they relate to fantasy as a concept today. The plot thickens This activity dissects how “story” is produced from events during play, comparing game mechanics across many titles. Separate groups will discuss their experiences of assigned situations and afterward we will consolidate the results across role-playing game titles for open discussion. Topics including the distribution of game mastering, shared vs. centralized preparation, false or leading plots which replace the creation of new ones, the randomization of acquiring knowledge, the gain or loss of control over a given character’s behavior, and open vs. fixed consequences for fine-grained outcomes. We will also compare the history of “story” in Swedish-authored games to general hobby trends.
